UE Comm Activities - September 2020

UE Comm Activities - September 2020 Strategic Priorities for September:
  • Quarter at Aggie Square: Launch of first-ever program, Transformative Justice Studies. Strategic priorities: Chancellor’s priority; anti-racism in education; advancing a new academic program with a single staff member
  • Instructional guidance for faculty: CEE had a number of significant events, news, and reports to share in support of instruction in the new remote academic year.

Summer Chairs and Flags

To create a summer vibe and presence on campus, we painted the word SUMMER on a set of colorful Adirondack chairs. UE Communications created a set of beach-themed flags promoting Summer Sessions. Chairs were set out daily on the lawn in front of The Grove during spring quarter. The chairs took on a life of their own, attracting people posing for photos.

FirstGen Initiative

This ongoing initiative supports the success of our first generation college students by creating community through storytelling and social media, offering ways for students to connect with first generation faculty, and developing teaching resources.

The initiative is growing in scope through collaborations with First Year Seminars and CEE’s creation of a First Generation Faculty Learning Community.

Leading and Breaking Barriers: Design Suite for Speaker Series

UE Comm branded and designed a suite of materials for the URC’s Leading and Breaking Barriers Speaker Series. Our design highlights the project’s STEM focus while incorporating photos of all of the speakers. Deliverables included web and print collateral, LCD screens, a website, a Dateline article, and a photography backdrop.

Assessment Symposium

The annual Assessment Symposium brings together campus assessment experts, faculty engaged in assessment projects, and administrators to support the growing culture of inquiry on campus. UEComm provided support for design, video, and web.

Digital Orientation

Orientation is teaming up with Academic Advising, Student Affairs, Strategic Communications, and Undergraduate Education to produce a series of videos to give incoming students timely information and a warm introduction to UC Davis before they arrive on campus for Orientation. Delivering critical information about academics, choosing courses, technological tools, advising, and campus leadership, Digital Pre-Orientation will set our newest students up for success.

Academic Difficulty Webpage and Videos

This project was created to provide support and information for students who receive subject to dismissal/disqualification notifications or are placed on academic probation. SD notifications can feel isolating and catastrophic, but all students have an opportunity to create a plan for success, and most go on to graduate from UC Davis. Our videos share students-to-student stories about what happened as they passed through the SD steps.

Winter Quarter Check-In Poster

This campaign promotes a forum for students with Vice Provost & Dean for Undergraduate Education Carolyn Thomas and the Associate Deans from each college. To encourage students to come and make the event less intimidating, we created Bitmojis for each of the administrators.

Media: Posters, flyers, LCD screens, Facebook events, campus calendar
